Work Location: One position is located at the Brad Whitcombe Green Legacy Tree Nursery, 6714 Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch (Southern), and one position is located at the Northern Green Legacy Tree Nursery, 8555 Line 6, Damascus (Northern) - the County of Wellington is an employer that believes in providing service onsite.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Green Legacy Tree Nursery Worker’s primary function is to assist in growing approximately 165,000 seedlings and 10,000 saplings per year for the community of Wellington County. Reporting to the Tree Nursery Coordinator and Community Outreach Coordinator, the Tree Nursery Worker is responsible for assisting with the propagation of the Green Legacy Nursery trees. The daily operation includes: propagation and watering of the trees and maintenance of the nursery equipment. The Tree Nursery Worker works daily with and assists with functional guidance of a large number of volunteers and students. 

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Under the guidance of the Tree Nursery Coordinator and Community Outreach Coordinator, the Tree Nursery Worker has the following duties and responsibilities:

  • Assist in the propagation of plant material (trees, shrubs, flowering plants, etc.)
  • Watering and maintenance of plant material.
  • Assist with private and public planting events.
  • Assist in seed collection.
  • Assemble tree orders and assist with customer order pickups and deliveries.   
  • Facilitating, and working alone, with overseeing large numbers of volunteers and students daily.
  • Assisting with elementary education programming (Kindergarten to Grade 8), including work stations and interpretive nature hikes.
  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School diploma.
  • Minimum one year of experience or equivalent in a related area, preferably working with volunteers and students.
  • Plant propagation experience is considered an asset.
  • Able to follow directions and work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Occasionally able to lift unwieldy objects and weights exceeding 25 kilograms.
  • Regularly expected to stoop or kneel and bend to pick up objects.
  • Work is outdoors and inside greenhouses, with occasional exposure to extreme temperatures.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class), and a satisfactory driver’s abstract is required; flexibility of location maybe required.

Pay Range: $26.84 - $31.40 (2025 Non-Union Compensation Grid)

Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.

Medical Responsibility Time: Prorated and accrues at 1 day/month.

Vacation: Accrues to start at three weeks/annum; increases based on length of service.

Parking: Provided.                                                               
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
