BASIC FUNCTION

The Site Attendant’s role is to provide service to customers wishing to dispose of waste and recyclable materials at the County’s landfill site and transfer stations. This service includes communicating with customers, assessing and collecting tipping fees, completing appropriate documentation, inspecting the incoming material for acceptability, operating the weigh scale, and completing the end of day bank deposits and reconciliation sheets.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Effectively communicate with the public operational needs and policies for the sites and provide SWS information to customers as needed. 
  • Oversee the operation of the site as a whole and delegate tasks for Site Assistants as needed in absence of the site supervisor.
  • Complete all necessary tracking and documentation throughout the day as required.
  • Prepare daily deposit and reconciliation reports, fill out bank deposit slip and place deposit bag in security safe.
  • Operate weigh scale and complete scale tickets. 
  • Operate the point of scale machine, cash register, and computer as required to complete daily duties.
  • Perform preliminary inspection of waste loads for non-acceptable materials. 
  • Provide direction to support safe and efficient drop off of waste and recyclable materials, ensuring that staff, customers and contractors abide by all Health and Safety policies that are in place. 
  • Act as the first point of contact for all site customers, contractors and vendors, providing direction as needed.
  • Fill out appropriate Ministry of the Environment, Conservation and Parks (MEC) documentation.
  • Comply with County of Wellington Environmental Compliance Approvals and MECP regulations, policies and procedures. 
  • Comply with all applicable health and safety regulations, policies and procedures. 
  • Comply with Engineering Services policies and procedures. 
  • Participate on the Joint Health and Safety Committee (JHSC) as required. 
  • Other duties as assigned by Transfer Operations Supervisor and SWS Manager.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High School Diploma. 
  • Working knowledge of computers
  • Minimum one year of experience or equivalent preferably in waste management as it applies to landfill sites, transfer stations, customer service or site maintenance.  
  • Experience with cash handling and preparing bank deposits is considered an asset
  • Ability to deal effectively with the public. 
  • A valid driver’s license (minimum G2 Class) and a satisfactory driver’s abstract. 

Pay Range: $29.65 - $34.71 (2025 Non-Union Compensation Grid)

Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Medical Responsibility Time: Accrues at the rate of four days maximum per year.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent; increases based on length of service.
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
