Position Type: Student; to be eligible for a student position, the applicant must be enrolled in a secondary school, college, or university programme, in a full-time capacity for the fall semester.
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week: regular schedule is 8:00 am - 3:30 pm onsite/in-person; flexibility of hours may be required. This student position is available from early May until the end of August.
Work Location: Elora Transfer Station - the County of Wellington is an employer that believes in providing service onsite.

BASIC FUNCTION

Reporting to the Collections Supervisor, the Collection Operations student will assist SWS Operations and evaluate collections issues such as customer participation and satisfaction.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • On-going monitoring of set-out and participation levels in various urban/rural areas and municipalities and entering data into spreadsheet or database.
  • Updating cart customer inventory records through site visits and entering information into spreadsheet.
  • Blue box inspections for contamination to identify problem materials for communication/education opportunities and meet with residents to educate on proper recycling.
  • Evaluation of customer satisfaction with regard to collection services.
  • Monitoring and evaluation of potential gold box winners.
  • Maintain and update list of road construction areas that impact curbside collection routes.
  • Maintain and update list of new housing developments and deliver blue boxes and educational materials once development is completed to the satisfaction of the Supervisor in order to provide curbside collection of waste and recyclable materials.
  • Verify and update the number of curbside ICI stops.
  • Assist in delivery of but not limited to: Blue boxes, recycling carts, Composters, user pay bags and educational materials, and be available to answer question or inquiries from residents and or building representatives.
  • Visit and effectively communicate changes to the blue box programme with the business community.
  • Assist in a variety of site operations as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Enrollment in a secondary school, college or university programme, in a full-time capacity for the fall semester.
  • Good oral communication and listening skills.
  • Ability to converse with and answer questions from the public.
  • Valid G2 Driver’s License and a satisfactory Driver’s Abstract are required.

Pay Range: $19.00 - $20.00 (2025 Student Compensation Grid)

Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.

Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent.                        

Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
