BASIC FUNCTION

The Assistant Museum Programmer reports to the Museum Programming Supervisor and, under their guidance, is responsible for the planning, delivery, promotion and evaluation of Wellington County Museum and Archives (WCMA) events, festivals, workshops, tours, camps, and programmes as required.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Under the guidance of the Museum Programming Supervisor, plan, deliver, promote and evaluate programmes, festivals, workshops, tours, and events to schools, community groups, individuals, and institutions.
  • Plans, organizes, researches and presents historical lectures and tours for the public.  These may consist of walking tours throughout the County, tours of the Historic House of Industry building, lectures in libraries and other institutions. Conduct programme research and development.
  • Assist with the setup and cleanup for all programmes, festivals and events.
  • Work cooperatively with staff in other departments, such as Curatorial and Archives, in the development, delivery, promotion and evaluation of programmes, events, and festivals.
  • Coordinate the training and supervision of Programming Volunteers
  • Assist with summer student training and supervision.
  • Coordinate programming registration and payments with Treasury and IT
  • Organize marketing and promotional materials, including print, press releases, social media, and radio.
  • Oversee the planning, development and execution of the PD Day and Summer Camp programmes and supervises participating children. Maintain safe handling of personal and confidential information about the health and safety of each child.
  • Facilitate video production in collaboration with Museum Programming Supervisor, Curatorial department, Economic Development and Communications.
  • Deliver programmes to a diverse clientele and travels across Wellington County to deliver programmes in rural communities.
  • Other duties as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Two year college diploma in museum studies or related field.
  • Minimum one year of experience or equivalent in planning, delivering, and evaluating museum programmes, festivals and events.
  • Experience overseeing students and volunteers.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word and PowerPoint.
  • Experience delivering high quality curriculum based school programming for groups of all ages
  • Excellent oral communication skills.
  • Excellent public speaking skills
  • Ability to function effectively as a team player.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class) and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.

Pay Range: $30.54 - $35.75 (2026 Non-Union Compensation Grid)

Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.

Medical Responsibility Time: Prorated and accrues at 1 day/month.

Vacation: Accrues to start at three weeks/annum; increases based on length of service.
