BASIC FUNCTION

The primary function of the Library Courier is to ensure the timely, accurate, physical transfer and delivery of library materials between all library branches. In addition to those regular deliveries the courier is required to deliver other material to other County offices and to other facilities operated by our community partners.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Deliver and pick up all library and other materials set out in accordance with the delivery schedule.
  • Maintain the security and confidentiality of all materials being delivered and picked up.
  • Attend to the regular maintenance (i.e. oil changes, tire changes and/or rotation, scheduled maintenance, emission tests and washing of the library van).
  • Sort library materials and any delivery items.
  • Assist with other library routines at Headquarters and the branches as required. 
  • Vehicle problems, including being able to make a judgment as to road conditions and the safety and liability to the County to continue with deliveries.
  • Communicating with library staff on revising route, schedules, or method of loading materials for transfer.
  • Library or other material that goes astray or is not delivered on time.
  • Communicating with County staff regarding the route, schedule, method of transferring items.
  • Accidents: being able to assist and take appropriate steps to ensure emergency services are called. 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • One year college certificate.
  • Minimum three years of experience or equivalent as a courier.
  • A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class) and a satisfactory driver’s abstract.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 55 pounds, multiple times per day. This includes pushing and maneuvering a cart full of library bins, and carrying bins up flights of stairs.
  • Must enjoy working with people in a team and customer service environment.
  • Must enjoy physically demanding work that is routine in nature.
  • Must be able to work unsupervised in a busy and confidential environment.
  • Must be able to drive a commercial van in all weather conditions 

Pay Range: $32.85 - $38.42 (2026 Non-Union Compensation Grid)
Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Medical Responsibility Time: One day for every 1,000 hours worked, up to a maximum of three days annually.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent; increases based on length of service.
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
