Position Type: Student; to be eligible for a student position, the applicant must be enrolled in a secondary school, college, or university programme, in a full-time capacity for the fall semester.
Work Hours: 30 hours per week; some evening and weekend hours may be required. Flexibility of hours may be required. This student position is available as an eight week summer position.
Work Location: Fergus Library; 190 St. Andrew Street West, Fergus; the County of Wellington is an employer that provides service onsite.

BASIC FUNCTION

The Summer Student is accountable to the Branch Supervisor for assisting with the implementation of children’s programmes, tracking their success, and other duties as assigned.

PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Follow the directions of senior library staff in providing children’s programmes.
  • Prepare programme supplies and assist with the supervision and implementation of children’s and teen programmes.
  • Oversee Summer Reading Club activities such as registration, tracking statistics, and prize distribution
  • Assist with other library work and special projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Current enrollment in a Secondary School, Community College or University programme.
  • Past work with children either as a volunteer or through paid work.
  • Enjoy working with children and youth.
  • Well-read and able to follow directions and work independently.
  • Sound introductory experience with computers and Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Publisher, etc.).

Pay Range: $19.50 - $20.50 (2026 Student Compensation Grid)
Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent.
