BASIC FUNCTION
The Life Enrichment Student will represent Wellington Terrace at all times by ensuring adherence to the Code of Conduct and demonstrating the County of Wellington’s commitment to a healthy and safe workplace where every person is respected.
Reporting to the Life Enrichment Manager, the Life Enrichment Student is responsible for assisting with recreation and leisure programmes for residents of Wellington Terrace.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Applies the fundamental principle of the Fixing Long-Term Care Act, 2021 in the operation of the home.
- Completes orientation and probation periods as specified by the policies of the Wellington Terrace and the Life Enrichment department.
- Provides opportunities for activation, motivation, and stimulation for residents of the home through one-to-one attention, small group opportunities, and large group events.
- Provides input to the assessment of residents’ recreation and leisure needs.
- Encourages resident participation by offering a variety of recreation and leisure programmes and through staff example and involvement in the programmes.
- Participates in meeting the residents’ recreation and leisure needs through the process of resident care plan.
- Requisitions supplies, equipment, and space to facilitate programmes.
- Appropriately plans, prepares, facilitates, and completes all aspects of specific recreation and leisure programmes.
- Invites, transports, and supervises residents in the facilitation of recreation and leisure programmes.
- Keeps work areas, equipment, and supplies, clean, safe and tidy.
- Incorporates decorations for seasonal and special occasions in specific work areas, as well as areas throughout the Home.
- Participates in off hour programmes as scheduled.
- Directs volunteers in specific programme areas.
- Responds to emergency fan-out when initiated.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Currently enrolled in secondary/post secondary programme, with a focus on recreation or geriatrics or social work and returning to school after the duration of this job agreement.
- Previous working experience with seniors and knowledge of the aging process is beneficial.
- CPR and Safe Food Handler’s Certificate an asset.
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hire.
Pay Range: $19.00 to $20.00 per hour (2025 Student Compensation Grid).
Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent; increases based on length of service.
