BASIC FUNCTION
Reporting to the Manager of Economic Development, the Economic Development Officer leads the implementation of economic development strategies that support local economic growth. The Economic Development Officer supports partnerships to facilitate business investment, retention, and attraction in Wellington County. Business Retention and Expansion (BR+E), Community Improvement Funding, Talent Attraction, Workforce Development, Investment Attraction, Experience Wellington, Tourism Signage Programme, the Taste Real Local Food Programme, and the Ride Well Rural Transit Service. This position is responsible for a variety of tasks involved in leading projects and working with a range of stakeholders.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Leading economic development initiatives and events, including monitoring programmes, marketing and communications, programme application intake, survey development and implementation, and business engagement.
- Collaborating with member municipalities to ensure effective development and rollout of department initiatives.
- Performance measurement of programmes against short and long-term objectives and strategic documents.
- Responding to economic development enquiries by conducting research, reviewing information, reaching out to stakeholders/groups and conducting follow up.
- Sourcing information and resources for industry specific initiatives by collecting and analyzing data, local market conditions and recommending directions targeting various business sectors.
- Supporting member municipalities in their economic development efforts where appropriate.
- Developing and working with financial budgets in a municipal setting.
- Working with a variety of municipal departments to implement initiatives.
- Developing and delivering presentations about economic development initiatives and programmes to internal and external partners.
- Creating marketing content to promote Wellington County and economic development programmes and initiativesDeveloping and maintaining relationships between local organizations, businesses, industry, and representatives of government with the aim of creating new economic opportunities.
- Assisting with other economic development activities as required.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Three-year college diploma in economic development, business administration or related field.
- Minimum four years of experience or equivalent, preferably in economic/tourism/business development.
- Familiarity with the rural municipal landscape and understanding of municipal economic development issues.
- Excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook), email and internet.
- A valid driver’s license (minimum G2 Class) and access to a reliable vehicle; flexibility of location may be required.
Pay Range: $72,891.00 - $85,267.00 (2025 Non-Union Compensation Grid).

Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Medical Responsibility Time: Prorated and accrues at 1 day/month.
Vacation: Accrues to start at three weeks/annum; increases based on length of service.
Parking: Provided; taxable benefit provisions apply.
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
