Position Type: Student; to be eligible for a student position, the applicant must be enrolled in a secondary school, college, or university programme, in a full-time capacity for the fall semester.
Work Hours: Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week: regular schedule is 8:30 am - 4:00 pm onsite/in-person; flexibility of hours may be required. This student position is available from early May until the end of August.
Work Location: One position is located at the Brad Whitcombe Green Legacy Tree Nursery, 6714 Wellington Road 34 in Puslinch (Southern), and one position is located at the Northern Green Legacy Tree Nursery, 8555 Line 6, Damascus (Northern) - the County of Wellington is an employer that believes in providing service onsite.

BASIC FUNCTION
Reporting to the Tree Nursery Coordinator, the Student is responsible for the propagation of the Green Legacy Nursery Trees. The tree nursery’s primary function is to grow 165,000+ seedlings and 10,000 saplings per year. The daily operation includes: propagation, watering and maintenance of the trees and nursery equipment.
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES
- Fill containers with soil
- Sowing seeds in containers
- Transplanting trees and shrubs
- Watering and maintenance of trees and shrubs
- Assist with private and public planting events
- Assist in seed collection
- Train and work with volunteers
- Other duties, as assigned
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Enrollment in a secondary school, college or university programme, in a full-time capacity for the fall semester.
- Post-secondary education in areas of horticulture, including: plant propagation, tree nursery management, tree planting, and forestry is considered an asset.
- General computer knowledge.
- Willingness to work in inclement weather and the ability to complete physical labour (able to lift 75 lbs. regularly).
- Police Vulnerable Sector Check required upon hire.
- A valid driver’s licence (minimum G2 Class), access to a reliable vehicle is considered an asset, and a satisfactory driver’s abstract may be required with a valid driver’s licence.
Pay Range: $19.00 - $20.00 (2025 Student Compensation Grid)
Pension: As a non-full-time (NFT) employee of an OMERS employer, you are eligible to elect to join the OMERS Pension Plan at any time. Enrollment in OMERS is voluntary.
Vacation: Paid out on each pay at the rate of six percent.
Parking: Provided.
Mileage: If applicable, as per CRA allowances.
